Church of San Fortunato
The Parish Church of Peglio, dedicated to San Fortunato, bishop of Todi, is one of the oldest parish churches in the diocese of Urbino, dating back to 1290. This church underwent major restoration and expansion in 1860, with the construction of the Baroque brick façade.
Inside the church, there are two crypts from the Lombard era and an extraordinary Via Crucis composed of 14 ceramic tiles from 1733-1734, signed “F.M.S.F.”, attributed to Francesco Maria Scatena of Urbania. This Via Crucis is considered the oldest ever made in majolica, representing a unique and precious example of sacred art.
The church is not only a place of worship, but also a custodian of local history and art, offering visitors a fascinating look at the religious and artistic past of the region.
