Frazione Lamoli

Panzanella Festival e processione dei quadri viventi

Held every year in mid-August, it offers visitors a series of homemade gastronomic specialties, dance music and games for children, in the equipped area of Campo della Fiera. Panzanella is a typical dish of Tuscan peasant cuisine. Tuscany in fact lies just a few kilometers from Lamoli. Panzanella was probably a custom of charcoal burners in the summer, who remained in the woods for several months away from home to “cook” the coal, using the bread that the women brought on periodic visits to refuel. The uneaten fresh bread was then sliced and soaked in water, a little vinegar was added, a few pieces of tomato, onion and salt and the panzanella was ready. On the day of Ferragosto the event ends with the characteristic Procession of living pictures, which starts from the Abbey of San Michele and lights up the town with a suggestive torchlight procession.
